Question and Answers

Does the enhanced performance capability alter the design pattern in the laminate?

No. The protectant does not affect the beauty and drama of the decorative laminate pattern.

Does the enhanced performance capability wear off or diminish over time?

Wilsonart’s Antimicrobial Protection does not deteriorate (wash away or wear off) over time. Silver ions are added during the manufacture of the laminate surface.

How does the antimicrobial protection work?

The antimicrobial protection is built into the resin/overlay like AEON™ technology. It is not a coating. It will not wash away. The antimicrobial protection added to Wilsonart® HD® inhibits the growth of stain and odor causing mold and mildew on the surface. Essentially, it keeps the surface looking - and smelling - better, longer.

How is Wilsonart® HD® Laminate performance enhanced?

Wilsonart’s enhanced antimicrobial protection is built into the laminate to protect the surface against damaging microbes. Antimicrobial agents protect the surface from the growth of mold and mildew that cause stains and odors when used for countertops and work surfaces.

Are there plans to add antimicrobial protectant to non-laminate Wilsonart® Surfaces, such as Solid Surface, Quartz, etc.?

At this time, the new antimicrobial protection is only available on Wilsonart® HD® Laminate.

Is Wilsonart enhancing its entire Wilsonart® HD® Laminate line?

Yes, all Wilsonart® HD® patterns includes antimicrobial protection, as well as Enhanced Scratch & Scuff Resistant AEON™ Technology, at no additional cost.

Why has Wilsonart decided to develop an antimicrobial laminate?

At Wilsonart, we are continually enhancing the beauty and performance of our surfaces. The development of this antimicrobial protection is a natural extension of already robust Wilsonart® HD® Laminate product benefits.

How do you fabricate rounded corners?

The Rounded Corner Wood Edges are made specifically for this application and can be matched with our Solid Wood Edge profiles. RHT-1 and RHT11 rounded corners are available in 2" radii in Red Oak and Hard Maple; RKT-1 rounded corners are available in 2", 4" and 6" radii in Red Oak and Hard Maple. Methods of fabrication are shown in the Custom Edges Fabrication Manual, BR1515.

Are custom wood species available?

Yes. Wood moldings can be ordered in cherry, white oak, white birch and black ash. There is a ten-stick minimum order per species and style and a four to six week lead time. Pricing for special species is determined on an order by order basis.

Are all of the profiles available locally?

Many Wilsonart distributors and regional warehouses stock the Bevel Edge profiles in the most popular Wilsonart Laminate designs. Non-stock options can be ordered through your Wilsonart distributor.
